"Liberace"
THE LIBERATED ARCH SCHEME with KHAB Architects
"Liberace" was developed to amplify the personality of our clients home.
Clients were looking to create an extension to their Strata Property, which means they'd also need the approval of their adjacent neighbours. They also needed to replace their existing 'wet area' as it was damaged with old age. With this in mind, we puzzled through possible spaces that began with the existing bathroom and a favoured archway of the home. We create a conservative versions with the existing lean-to intact (to make ease of the neighbours' approval) but found it was far too limiting for the potential the extension could have. The clients were also seeking something grander with the finances they had available.
So after many iterations, a favourite was fashioned. We decided to liberate the 'favoured archway' from its stagnate position, replicating the form and playing with its scale and materiality in the extension of the home which the clients immediately love and approved. KHAB was also able to keep the extension roof below their neighbours' view which would help with the clients future discussions.
They took the plans and decided to convince their neighbour to approve their future home.

My part of this process was creating and developing my own iterations of the extension as well as the visual presentations for the client. Kirtsy Hewitt then advanced my work and presented it to the client. It was amazing to experience how receptive my first real life clients were to something I help manifest.
